Christine here . . . . making my first contribution to the blog. My mom had her liver biopsy today and I got to stay in the room and watch the entire thing!! It was very cool. This biopsy was an ultra sound biopsy as opposed to the first biopsy (that came back inconclusive) that was a CT biopsy…this was much more accurate. I watched on the screen as the needle went in, followed a path mapped out by the ultra sound tech that went right to the lesion, took a sample, and came back out. We (the doctors and I) watched the whole thing real time, as it happened – so cool. I brought my camera phone in and took pictures before the procedure. No internal bleeding this time, phew. There were about ten people in the room during the procedure – nurse, two doctors, ultra sound tech, and some pathologists. Right after they took the cells they passed them over to the pathologists to look at to make sure we got a good sample and it’s not inconclusive again. The big answer to prayer was that there was no internal bleeding this time. Pop and Andrew held down the fort in the hospital room (far from the needles).
We had a GREAT team performing the biopsy – I took down their names so we can request them when we have to do this again next week (the clinical trial is going to require one more biopsy next week).
Oh, and Chemo won’t begin until they have “proof” – so probably not until next week.
Oh my gosh Carol....Sarah was with me when I went through all my testing and staging as well....what would the world do without daughters!

PS. I'm glad the stent went well, but keep in mind, I don't think it is bad to be yellow :-)
Today, I personally led three retired four stars and others at the Pentagon in a brief but sincere prayer for you.
ReplyDelete("Dick, who is Carol?" - - - "Never mind, she is worthy of our prayer so
just do it!") Dick
I know that I am not supposed to post a comment to my own blog..but I am commenting on CHRISTINE'S blog posting! She was amazing during that liver biopsy! What a coach! For each of the 7 or 8 biopsies, as the doctor would say "okay going in..." Steve (the wonderful sonogram tech) and Christine in unison would stare at the screen and say "Little breath in, hold it, hold it, hold it. Okay...that's it" and then Christine would say "Good Job MOM!" ha ha. At the end she was thanking everybody and said, "Mom this is SO cool..it was like a science lesson." I told her that I will never again feel guilty for not being a stay-at-home-mom like the "real moms" (as she used to call my friends) b/c I had now given her the ULTIMATE Home Schooling lesson!
ReplyDeleteShe was a trooper...what a girl!
What a blessing to have such wonderful doctors, so glad to hear the biopsy went well. Christine, loved the pics and seeing everyone smiling and in good spirits, your mom looks great! It's wonderful seeing how much love, support, and faith there is in your family.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I haven't met you yet but from what I've read on the blog and what I know from Christine, you seem like a strong woman with a tremendous uplifting joyful spirit whom a lot of people love and care about. I'm praying for you and the entire family, including Jake :-)

Dear Carol,
ReplyDeleteKatie and I are praying for you everyday. We thought you would enjoy this prayer.
Merciful God, we remember before you all who are sick this day. Give them courage to live with their disease. Help them to face and overcome their fears. Be with them when they are alone or rejected. Comfort them when they are discouraged. And touch them with your healing Spirit that they may find and possess eternal life, now and forever. Amen.
